Ashram |
|
Inspired by the Ashrams and Monasteries of India and Thailand we have a 105 acre piece of land in Northern BC, 100 km north of Terrace, in the beautiful Nass Valley. We are intending to have this centre as a support for both beginner and advanced practioners, and will host yogic intensive workshops, and meditation retreats. This centre will also be open to a number of like-minded individuals who are wishing for live-in community support.
(teepee, yoga hall and surrounding mountains)
Retreat Centre/ Ashram The land, mostly hilly and forested, is quite a picturesque setting. The property banks upon the Nass River for 2 km which is having a direct link to the Pacific Ocean less than 100 km’s away. The land is isolated between Mount Priestly and the Coastal Mountains, with a huge Self Governed First Nations (Nisga’a) Self Ruled Land of 50 km’s in all directions. The closest city is Terrace (having a population of 20,000), which is more then a one and a half hour drive, and the closest neighbor is 5 km away, at Nass Camp (an old logging camp). It is free from the sounds of modern society and is more then adequate for solitude and isolation.
There is presently a small log cabin run on solar power, a gravity-fed running water system and a small guest house, with around 10 acres of semi-cleared land. There is a stream running through the middle of the property providing drinking water, and basic outdoor bathing facilities. A large medtation hall with an attached kitchen provide adequate facility for a living space, for ashramites. As well, a large garden area which provide us with plenty of organic vegetables
For 2010 we will have a very busy schedule. We will be building 4-5 conventional style cabins, and further expansion of the garden area/ camping area. Plus, if time (and money) permits, we will be starting a microhydro plant off the stream running through the property.
We are in need of volunteers to help get this retreat centre up and running….If you would like to come and help us in our endeavors, please contact us!!!
